The end of the 2024-2025 Broadway season is coming up quickly! The 2025 Tony Awards eligibility cut-off is on April 27th, which means all shows wanting to be eligible for this years Tony Awards need to have their opening night on or before this date. In this post I am going to highlight a handful of shows that have already opened this season as well as some highly anticipated shows opening in the next couple of months. The last few months of the season are usually pretty busy with shows trying to get in before the deadline, so I won’t be able to cover everything.
If you want to know more about the shows listed below, or about any show not listed here, please feel free to reach out! If some of these shows excite you and you are interested in booking a trip to New York, I can get that planned out and booked for you!
New Shows/Revivals Already Open:
Maybe Happy Ending
Photo by Matthew Murphy and Evan Zimmerman
Maybe Happy Ending is a charming new original romantic musical comedy from American composer Will Aronson and South Korean lyricist Hue Park. The story takes place in a futuristic Seoul and centers around two helper bots - Oliver & Claire - abandoned by their owners. After an awkward first encounter, the two develop a friendship that brings them on an adventure together where they eventually discover what both thought never possible for them - love.
Adam’s Thoughts: This beautiful new one-act musical starring Darren Criss & Helen J Shen is a must see this season. The music is a nice blend of modern musical theatre with jazz & classical. Michael Arden’s incredible attention to detail with his directions makes for some magical moments that will take your breath away and tug at your emotions. I highly recommend it!
Death Becomes Her

Death Becomes Her is a new musical adaptation of the 1992 comedy movie of the same name that starred Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn. The story centers around Madeline, a star of the stage and screen, and Helen, an author forever in Madeline’s shadow. After Madelenie steals Helen’s fiance, Helen plots her revenge and eventually meets a mysterious woman named Viola who gives her a magical potion that promises eternal life and youth.
Adam’s Thoughts: This new adaptation is a laugh-out-loud hit! Megan Hilty and Jennifer Simard are an incredible pair on stage that will leave you howling with laughter. Michelle Williams dazzles in every scene she’s and Christopher Sieber and Josh Lamon hilariously round out the cast. If you’re looking for a hilarious night, look no further than this show!
Sunset Boulevard
This new revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard, based on the 1950 noir film of the same name, reimagines the show by stripping down the set & costumes to a black & white box with a giant screen where handheld cameras are used for some creative close-up shots and other exciting moments. The story is about Norma Desmond, a faded movie star of the silent film era, and Joe Gillis, a struggling Hollywood writer. The two meet and work on a script that is supposed to herald Norma’s return…. but nothing goes as planned.
Adam’s Thoughts: This is my favorite production this season. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s incredible cinematic score plays so well against this bare-bones staging. The principal company and ensemble absolutely shine. Tom Francis & Nicole Scherzinger lead this inventive Jaime Lloyd production with Grace Hodgett-Young & David Thaxton also knocking it out of the park in their supporting roles. This is my highest recommendation of the season, and you only have until July 17th to see it before closing. If you can, I highly suggest catching a performance with Mandy Gonzalez as Norma Desmond.

The show is known for its unique storytelling structure, as it presents the couple's relationship from two opposing perspectives.
Cathy tells the story in reverse chronological order, starting from the breakup and moving backward to the beginning of the relationship. Jamie tells the story in chronological order, starting from the beginning of the relationship and moving forward to the breakup. The two characters only interact directly in the middle of the show when their timelines overlap at their wedding.
Pirates! The Penzance Musical
First Preview: April 4 | Opening Night: April 24
Official Synopsis: The Pirates of Penzance was last seen on Broadway in 1981- a production that won three Tony Awards. The classic story epitomizes the Victorian-era operetta and explores themes of duty, love, and honor, coupled with parody of class structures and authority. As a cornerstone of light opera, The Pirates of Penzance has solidified its place as a timeless work that bridges the gap between classical and contemporary musical theater.
What makes this Pirates! different? In this version, the pirate ship docks in New Orleans in this jazzy-bluesy vision of the crowd-pleasing classic, in an outrageously clever romp sizzling with Caribbean rhythms and French Quarter flair. With the tongue-twisting Major-General, the rabble-rousing Pirate King, newly-imagined young lovers, daring daughters, footloose pirates and fleet-footed police, there's a shipload of musical comedy delights on board to dazzle first-timers and G&S aficionados alike.
